Nikki Haley ( Born Nimrata Randhawa) was born in South Carolina on January 20, 1972, to Indian immigrants. She was nicknamed Nikki which means “the little one.” Her political career kicked off in 2004 when she was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives.Haley, who is Donald Trump’s pick for ambassador to the UN, was the first female and Indian-American to be elected as the Governor of South Carolina. She had been in the national spotlight during the Charleston shooting in 2015. In 2016, she was also named among the Times Magazine “The 100 Most Influential People.”
Nikki, who was raised as a Sikh, went on to marry Michael Haley, and now considers herself both Sikh and Christian. The couple has two children, Rena and Nalin.
